Individual Retirement Accounts

IRAs generally fall into one of two types-- the Traditional IRA and the Roth IRA. While each IRA has unique benefits, they both offer various tax savings to help encourage taxpayers to plan for their future. - back to top.

The Traditional IRA is a personal retirement savings plan that offers:
· The ability to save up to $2,000 (or 100% of earned income, whichever is less) each year towards your retirement, some or all of which may be deductible from taxable income.
· Tax-deferred earnings on your contributions, which helps your savings grow more quickly since you don't pay taxes until you withdraw the funds. · The ability to withdraw funds without IRS penalty prior to age 59 1/2 with certain qualifying expenses such as the purchase of a home or higher education, although income taxes will apply.

The Roth IRA is a personal retirement savings plan that offers:
· The ability to save up to $2,000 (or 100% of earned income, whichever is less) each year toward your retirement, with after-tax earnings.
· Potential tax-free earnings as long as you are age 59 1/2 and have had the account for at least five years.
· Withdrawals for qualifying expenses such as the purchase of a home or higher education are IRS penalty-free prior to age 59 1/2, although income taxes will apply.
· Unrestricted access to your contributions at any time, without IRS penalty.
· No minimum required distributions at age 70 1/2. In fact, with a Roth IRA you may continue to contribute regardless of age, as long as you are a wage earner.

Anyone can open an IRA as long as he or she, or their spouse, has earned income. Traditional IRAs are also subject to certain age requirements. Another way to open an IRA is by rolling over funds from an employer-sponsored plan, like a 401(k) or pension ('Rollover IRA'). When you leave a job or retire, you are allowed to take your retirement savings ('distribution') and move it into an IRA where you can have greater control over your investment choices and continue tax deferral. A direct rollover -- when a distribution is transferred directly to your new IRA provider--allows you to avoid the mandatory 20% withholding for federal income tax. An IRA rollover also allows you to continue tax deferral and to avoid possible IRS penalties for early withdrawal.

Whether you choose to open a Traditional IRA or a Roth IRA, either with a contribution or rollover (Traditional IRA only), you can rest assured that your First Fidelity Bank IRA is FDIC insured. - back to top.

ShazamChek Debit Card
SHAZAMChek® is not a credit card…it's a card that works like a check.

So now, instead of taking the time to write out a check, produce two forms of identification and wait for some "supervisor" to approve the whole transaction, all you have to do is hand the clerk your SHAZAMChek card. As long as they are a Mastercard® merchant, your purchase will be processed quickly and automatically posted to your checking account. No hassles. No interest charges. No finance charges.

And because your monthly statement will not only include every transaction, but the name of the merchant as well, your record-keeping will be even better.

You can also use SHAZAMChek at any Cirrus® Automated Teller Machine to make cash withdrawals from checking, transfer funds between savings and checking, or make balance inquiries on either account.

Use SHAZAMChek:

· When you make a purchase anywhere that accepts Mastercard'.
SHAZAMChek is fast, easy and convenient ... and there are no interest or finance charges, no matter how often you use it.

· When you are away from home.
You can take less cash and fewer travelers cheques when you travel because SHAZAMChek is accepted worldwide. No hassles, no delays and no "two-forms-of-identification-I'll-have-to-get-my-supervisor" approval process.

· When you order through the mail.
SHAZAMChek helps you avoid the interest charges of a credit card and the nuisance of having a check get lost in the mail.

· When you are at a Cirrus® Automated Teller Machine.
Check your balances in checking or savings, transfer funds between the two, or make a cash withdrawal from your checking.
